It's official. The Oscars have finally crash-landed into the 21st century and the results are record breaking..... In a nod to a moment of sheer genius that set the social media world ablaze, host Ellen DeGeneres made history as she gathered some of Hollywood's most elite and took the selfie to end all selfies. In just under an hour, said photo broke the record previously held by President Barack Obama to become the most retweeted photograph ever. By the end of the telecast, which clocked in at a few minutes past eternity, the figure stood at more than two million retweets.
The contrast between how Ellen and All-American Muslim were treated shows that, once viewers make friends with another group on TV, bigotry becomes bad business.
"I want to be clear, and here are the values that I stand for: I stand for honesty, equality, kindness, compassion, treating people the way you want to be treated, and helping those in need. To me those are traditional values. That's what I stand for." --Ellen DeGeneres
The Associated Press asked Ellen DeGeneres for permission to share her now-famous Oscar selfie with subscribers to their photo service. But does Ellen have the right to give it away? Or do the rights to this photo belong to the man who held the mobile camera and pressed the button - actor Bradley Cooper? And what rights do the others who appeared in the photo have to the world's most famous photo?
Ellen DeGeneres took the most epic selfie in the history of the word epic . Could this Oscars shot be the most retweeted of all-time? So much beauty. So much talent. So much money. So many Oscar wins. In ONE selfie. Never again will any picture you take matter.
A guy like Howard Stern, with such a widespread audience and recognizable personality, has a lot of pull in this world. What he says a lot of people hear — and more importantly, listen to. Hear him go off on homophobes like Million Moms, Rick Santorum and Michelle Bachmann and stand up for gays.
