There was only really one story this week - wasn't there? SOPA - and how to stop it. The Stop Online Piracy Act and its bastard cousin PIPA (Protect IP Act) sound like something we would want....But the way the legislation is written leaves a lot of room for interpreting what exactly constitutes "piracy" and "protecting IP".

An animataed .gif by The Oatmeal.com uses some cute graphics (think Oprah on a jet ski...with Jesus!) to explain why the average Internet user should not support SOPA and PIPA. "It's like dealing with a lion who escaped from the zoo by blasting a bunch of kittens with a flamethrower."

Other sites are joining Wikipedia in tomorrow's protest against the Stop the Online Piracy Act (SOPA) legislation. Mozilla, MoveOn.org, Wordpress, TwitPic and the I Can Has Cheezburger network will also go dark. No cute cats on the Internet for 24 hours!? Do we have your attention yet?

To protest the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) being proposed in Congress, Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia is planning a 24-hour blackout starting Wednesday, January 18 at midnight Eastern time. Here are three ways to survive the down time. Alternatively, you could write down (or Tweet) each instance in which you needed some info from Wikipedia and share the experience of what it would be like without this site at your fingertips.
