Whiny William Shatner's Rants About 'Nobodies' Getting Verified on Twitter

Whiny William Shatner's Rants About 'Nobodies' Getting Verified on Twitter | Communications Major | Scoop.it

You know those little blue check marks next to names of Twitter account holders "verifying" for the rest of us that these folks are indeed the real deal? Like has-been TV star and ad pitchman William Shatner? You wouldn't take a tweet from an "unverified" William Shatner seriously, but a "verified" William Shatner? Well, heck, it's like he's speaking directly to you - and only you - through your Twitter feed. Apparently, Shatner thinks the little blue check mark should only be bequeathed to those of his stature (and presumably above). Social media managers be damned.

Apparently Shatner, who has a social media manager himself (according to his Twitter feed), took to firing off his own tweets over the weekend. His social media guy must keep 9-5, M-F hours and be unavailable during downtime for damage control. Which makes those little blue check marks all the more dubious, don't you think?

Woody Allen, Alec Baldwin, Cate Blanchett Respond To Dylan Farrow's NYT Piece | Communications Major | Scoop.it

An open letter from Mia Farrow's daughter Dylan in the New York Times on Sunday has unleashed a firestorm of celebrity social media frenzy surrounding allegations that Woody Allen (Dylan's one-time stepfather) sexually abused her as a child. While the allegations have been part and parcel of celebrity gossip since the 1990s, will it take 21st century communication devices for justice to be served? Or, will Allen ultimately be exonerated by A-listers with larger numbers of Twitter followers?
