File this under "there's an app for that". Moviefone (777-FILM) will be shutting down next month. Not that you've been dialing for movie times much in the recent past. Moviefone is off to join the pay phone, calling card and cordless land line phone in the heap of no longer useful technologies and conveniences that once facilitated communication and information.

A lone, legendary phone booth in the desert is no more. But thanks to a a VoIP DID you can once again call 760-733-9969. There's no telling who's going to be on the other line. 

Not quite useless after all, hundreds of mostly empty phone booths in Manhattan have been rigged with transmitting “beacons” by an advertising company, BuzzFeed reports. The city’s Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications apparently allowed Titan, which sells ad space outside and on public transit, to install Bluetooth devices that send signals to smartphone apps for pinpointing a user, often for delivering location-specific messages or deals. The public was not notified, which is totally not creepy at all.

The European electronics retailer Pixmania recently conducted a studyof online relationships, and found Twitter was the most popular method of interaction, followed by texts and phone calls.

On average, the study reported that it only takes a month after meeting for couples under the age of 25 to solidify their relationship status, and just two months for couples over 55—an average of just 224 tweets, 70 Facebook messages, or 30 phone conversations before arriving at true love.
